Role Overview
Our client is a fast-paced startup building ML-powered threat detection systems that identify and neutralize digital disinformation at scale. Their core platform processes millions of data points in real time, powered by cutting-edge NLP models, classification algorithms, and anomaly detection. Trusted by Fortune 1000 companies and government agencies, the platform is rapidly expanding to meet growing demand.

The engineering team is 20 strong, with a lean Platform/DevOps/SRE function currently supporting the entire infrastructure. To keep up with scale, they’re adding another Senior DevOps Engineer to help shoulder the workload. This role is critical to ensuring the platform’s scalability, reliability, and security as the customer base grows and the data engineering capabilities expand.

Why This Role Matters

  • You’ll be the third member of the DevOps/Infrastructure team, helping scale and stabilize critical infrastructure.
  • Your work will directly support machine learning and data engineering layers powering mission-critical threat detection.
  • You’ll play a key role in scaling infrastructure securely as the company expands its customer base and enters SOC 2 compliance.
  • This is a senior-level position with the opportunity to influence technology choices, processes, and security posture from the ground up.

What You’ll Do

  • Share ownership of Kubernetes-heavy infrastructure — designing, deploying, and optimizing clusters across environments.
  • Build and maintain Helm charts, Terraform modules, and CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, or GitLab).
  • Partner with development and ML engineering teams to support application and data pipelines running on AWS (Azure experience is also fine).
  • Containerize workloads with Docker and streamline developer workflows.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning with IaC tools like Terraform, Helm, and Ansible.
  • Improve monitoring and observability with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, or ELK stack.
  • Support the company’s SOC 2 compliance efforts by implementing secure-by-default infrastructure practices.
  • Troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventative fixes.
  • Collaborate across software, data, QA, and security teams to ensure infrastructure supports business and ML workloads.
  • Stay current with cloud, container, and automation trends — proposing new tools to scale the platform.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • 7+ years experience in production infrastructure/DevOps/SRE roles.
  • 2+ years hands-on Kubernetes experience in production (cluster provisioning, Helm, scaling, optimization).
  • Strong experience with Terraform, Helm, and containerization (Docker).
  • CI/CD pipeline expertise (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar).
  • Proficiency with AWS (EKS, RDS, IAM, Lambda, ECR). Azure/GCP experience a plus.
  • Scripting ability in Bash or Python, with automation mindset.
  • Familiarity with monitoring/logging stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, Splunk, ELK).
  • Experience with relational and messaging systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Snowflake).
  • Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, SDN).
  • Security-conscious approach — able to design systems with compliance and SOC 2 requirements in mind.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for distributed systems and microservices.
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment with cross-functional collaboration.
